Proposals to put over 750 new residential units on the Skylines site on Marsh Wall were REJECTED on Wednesday night—after Cubitt Town's local Conservative councillors appealed to get it thrown out.
The plans, which would have included a 50-STOREY skyscraper overlooking the St John’s Estate, came before Tower Hamlets Council’s Strategic Development Committee on 6 March. But Cubitt Town Conservative councillor Cllr Peter Golds spoke against it at the committee meeting—and the plans were thrown out.
Cllr Golds has been working closely with residents and community groups across the St John’s Estate and raised issues of over-development and the impact the plans would have had on the area.
Commenting, Cllr Golds said “This application was just yet another inappropriate development that took no account of the lack of local infrastructure or the impact it would have had on our schools and roads.”
“Respect-backed Mayor Lutfur Rahman supported these plans, showing again his complete ignorance of the needs and wishes of Isle of Dogs residents.”
“My fellow Conservative councillors and I will continue to be vigilant in case the rejection decision is appealed.”
