Local Conservatives won further backing for their 18 month fight to save our local parks from being commercially exploited at a Full Council meeting on 16th May.
Your Isle of Dogs councillors delivered another blow to Mayor Rahman’s plans to hire out Millwall Park, Sir John McDougal Gardens and Island Gardens when the Council suggested changes to the Open Spaces strategy which would ban commercial events.
Cllr David Snowdon (Millwall)said after the vote “Tower Hamlets Council has listened to common sense. The parks on the Isle of Dogs are an oasis in an otherwise very densely populated area.”
Councillor Zara Davis (Millwall) added “Our parks should be for local residents and sports teams to use. They should not be hired out to commercial enterprises to make money, while causing traffic chaos and an increase in anti-social behaviour”.
