Cllr Peter Golds and Sir Edward Lister, Chief of Staff to Mayor Boris Johnson, today toured the site of the new Crossrail station at Canary Wharf.
The new station, which will link Canary Wharf with Essex, the West End and Heathrow, is due to enter service in 2018. However, the building work is continuing at a rapid pace.
Cllr Golds, who is pictured in front of the eastern tunnel portal of the westbound line, some three metres below the future platform, said, "Crossrail is set to offer major benefits to everyone who lives in Tower Hamlets or works in the Borough. Not only will the new route take in Canary Wharf, but the new station at Whitechapel will open up major new job opportunities for those in the north of Tower Hamlets."
